For the first time in program history, the University at Buffalo women’s basketball team is off to a 3-0 start in Mid-American Conference play.
The Bulls earned that distinction with a 69-54 win at Kent State on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile in Richmond, the St. Bonaventure women saw their second-half comeback fall short in a 51-46 loss to the Spiders in Atlantic 10 play.
In Ohio, Kent State and Buffalo were tied, 16-16, with 6:25 left in the half when the Bulls went on a 12-1 run capped by a three-pointer from Sloane Walton to take 28-17 lead and control of the game.
Walton, a sophomore guard from Nichols, finished with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including three three-pointers.
“This team is starting to play together,” said UB coach Felisha Legette-Jack. “They are making mistakes but they are playing through the mistakes and that is good to see.”
The Bulls (5-11, 3-0 MAC) hit 38 percent from the field (27-71) while hitting 7 of 23 from three-point range.
Trisha Krewson scored 14 points to pace Kent State (2-14, 0-3).
Buffalo will play at Toledo on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in Virginia, Bona had a 15-0 run to tie the game at 31-31 with 11:38 to play. Richmond pulled out to a 43-36 lead with 3:03 left in the game. CeCe Dixon nailed a three-pointer to cut the lead to 43-39, but Bona could get no closer.
Richmond (11-7, 1-1) was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10.
The Bonnies (7-8, 0-2) host UMass at 1 p.m. Saturday.
