Diane Nelson, a retired bank branch manager, died Sunday in her Buffalo home. She was 63.
Born in Buffalo, she was a graduate of Kensington High School. She earned her associate degree in secretarial and office management from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute.
From there, Ms. Nelson embarked on a career in banking, starting as a teller with Liberty National Bank and working her way up the ladder as the bank became Norstar Bank, then Fleet Bank and, finally, Bank of America.She retired from her 40-year career in banking as the manager of the Broadway-Fillmore Bank of America branch in 2009.
Ms. Nelson was a volunteer for many causes, among them the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Walk, Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross.
She traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.
For many years, she enjoyed attending murder-mystery weekend trips and also attended classes in ceramics every Tuesday for more than 20 years.
She is survived by her mother, Minnie; four brothers, George III, William, David and Donald; and three sisters, Helen Gibson, Rosemary Gandy and Edna.
A service will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in Thomas T. Edwards Funeral Home, 995 Genesee St.
