State police on Wednesday announced the Jan. 10 arrests of two Attica Correctional Facility inmates related to prison contraband.
Gamalier Rivera, 44, who is now an inmate at Auburn Correctional Facility but had previously been at Attica, was charged with felony counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities alleged that in November, while he was still at Attica, he was found in possession of an “edged metal weapon secreted to his person,” police said in a statement
He is serving a sentence for second-degree robbery and second-degree assault out of Queens
The second inmate, Eduardo Velasquez, 40, was charged with felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree promoting prison contraband.
In November, he allegedly smuggled and was in possession of “multiple balloons of heroin and marijuana secreted inside his body during an inmate visitation,” police said.
He is serving time for second-degree attempted murder and other charges out of Kings County
Both inmates were arraigned in Attica Town Court and returned to the custody of the state Department of Correction.
