First Niagara Financial Group has donated a former bank branch in Rochester to the Lexington Avenue Federal Credit Union to ensure the neighborhood maintains access to banking services.

The donation of the branch at 762 Joseph Ave. includes title to the property and all of the building’s contents, technology and furniture, with a total value of about $200,000. The bank, which worked with the city of Rochester to find a credit union to take over the facility, already removed all stored data from computers and other technology being donated.

First Niagara acquired the branch as part of its HSBC Bank USA branch purchase last year but consolidated the office with existing branches. It has 12 other Rochester-area offices, including nearby at 70 Lyell Ave.

Buffalo-based First Niagara is also providing a $10,000 grant to the Joseph Avenue Business Association to support its four-part strategic plan to revitalize the neighborhood.
