The Buffalo Junior Sabres maintained their hold on first place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s West Division on Tuesday night, earning a point during a 4-3 shootout loss to Orangeville (Ont.) at the Northtown Center in Amherst.

Tim Kielich, Nolan Sheeran and Ryan Schmelzer, who netted the game-tying goal with just under six minutes left in regulation, all scored for Buffalo, which played without leading scorer Tyler Gjurich (38 goals, 73 points in 42 games), who served the last of a two-game suspension as a result of a misconduct penalty he was assessed Jan. 5.

Thomas Tsicos of the Flyers scored the only goal of the four-round shootout.

The Junior Sabres (29-11-4) have a one-point lead in the division over Georgetown. They visit Hamilton on Saturday. Buffalo’s next home game is next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Northtown Center against Milton.
