Hamburg teachers plan to continue negotiating today with the administration over the teacher evaluation plan that is supposed to be approved by the state by Thursday.

Teachers overwhelmingly rejected the proposal Friday. The Hamburg Teachers Association’s Contract Committee met Monday and examined teacher surveys on the plan and vote. The committee also resumed negotiations with the administration.

“We are working hard on the items provided to the contract committee as to why the membership rejected the proposed [annual professional peformance review] plan,” Teachers Association President John Mrozek said in a statement.

Concerns raised by teachers to the union included the amount of time spent on student testing, the lack of Common Core-aligned curriculum and updated student materials provided by the district, and changes that were made in the appeals process.

Chris Cerrone, corresponding secretary for the association, said teachers hope to vote on the revised plan this week.

Meanwhile, the location of the Hamburg Central School Board’s budget work session today has been changed to the Middle School, 360 Division St. The time remains the same, 6:30 p.m.
