Dr. Andrew D. Coates, the new president of Physicians for a National Health Program, will appear Thursday in Buffalo at a community forum on poverty, disparities and health care.
The program, which will include a conversation with Coates, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Lafayette Presbyterian Church, 875 Elmwood Ave. at Lafayette Avenue. Refreshments will be available at 5:30.
Other speakers will include Dr. Kate Grimm of the Community Health Worker Network; Dr. Myron Glick of Jericho Road Family Practice; and Sam Magavern of the Partnership for Public Good.
Coates, who has served as chairman of the Capital District chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program, is known as a passionate advocate for single-payer health reform.He is an assistant professor of medicine and psychiatry at Albany Medical College, practices at a community hospital, serves as medical director of a publicly owned county nursing home and is board-certified in internal medicine, as well as hospice and palliative medicine.
