John Tavares has been with the Buffalo Bandits for the past 21 seasons, but he will do something in 2013 he hasn’t done before: serve as team captain.
The Bandits announced Wednesday that Tavares, who holds all of the team and league scoring records, will captain the 2013 edition of the team, which opens play this Friday at Philadelphia. Scott Self and Shawn Williams will serve as alternate captains.
Tavares has led the team in scoring in all but four of his 21 seasons. He leads all National Lacrosse League players in career goals (765), assists (862) and points (1,627).
After Friday’s game, the Bandits open the home portion of their schedule Saturday when they host Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. in First Niagara Center.
