Unions soon forget about loyal retirees
I read a letter in the opinion section of The News that said unions fight for the workers. It’s true, and I agree with the writer 100 percent – to a point. As the years went by, unions became like some politicians – only after their own pockets.
I know because they gave us retirees the business, 11 years after we retired. We worked at a local plant in Niagara Falls and retired in 2000, with the company paying 100 percent of our medical costs. In 2011, our union negotiated a new contract – going back 11 years, and behind our backs – requiring us to start to contribute to our medical coverage.
So you see, once you retire and have no more say in a contract, unions forget about you.
