When a patron first walks into Black Forest Adler, an authentic German restaurant that offers traditional cuisine, they are greeted by an impressive collection of nutcrackers, among other things. Things like this collection are what make Black Forest Adler such a special restaurant.

The unique place offers traditional German food prepared by chefs from that country. The restaurant is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Laura and Gerhard Braun (pictured at left). Gerhard is the head chef, and Laura either works in the kitchen or out in the dining room.

I started off with an order of the potato pancakes, which are prepared using Laura’s grandmother’s recipe. It only took one bite for me to become addicted. A bowl of applesauce came with the pancakes, and although at first I was reluctant to try it, I decided to give it a go, and the pancakes turned out to be even better with the applesauce.

Next, I had an order of spaetzle, which are a kind of homemade noodle from Swabia, an area in Germany. They were lighter than a regular noodle, and they tasted absolutely delicious. Following the noodles, I had some of the spudsters, which were like deep-fried mashed potato bits. They reminded me of a tater tot, especially after I dipped them in some good old, American ketchup.

For my main entrée, I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which was absolutely delicious. I’ve had this dish before many times, but this was by far the best chicken cordon bleu I’ve ever had. The chicken was very moist, and the melted Swiss cheese oozed out. It came with long, crispy french fries that rivaled those of American restaurants.

After this tremendous meal, I was stuffed. Even if you’ve never had German food before, Black Forest Adler is a great place to try it. If you’re looking for a great restaurant with authentic German food, Black Forest Adler should be your first choice.
