John G. Mikula, a retired Teamster, died Wednesday at his home in Lancaster. He was 79.
Born in Buffalo, he graduated in 1951 from Lancaster High School and afterward served a year in the Army as a radio operator in Korea. He attained the rank of corporal.
Mr. Mikula worked as a Teamster for various local companies, including Cable Guide Railing of Lancaster from 1955 to 1985.
For 14 years, he worked at United Parcel Service, Hubble Construction in Lancaster, Bippert Farms in Elma and Lisa Marie Construction in Cheektowaga. He retired in 1999 from Mr. Topsoil in Depew.
He was a past commander of Post 7275, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Lancaster and most recently served as its chaplain.
Mr. Mikula was a member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Lancaster.
His wife of 53 years, Lorraine R. Benson Mikula, died in 2010.
He is survived by a daughter, Darlene; a son, John J.; two sisters, Estelle Jasiczek and Dorothy Fronczek; and two brothers, Edward and Theodore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 158 Laverack Ave., Lancaster.
