The state Department of Transportation has rejected a request from the Town of Marilla to put up a crosswalk on Two Rod Road in front of Town Hall, Supervisor George Gertz said this week.

Gertz told Town Board members during a work session Tuesday that state transportation officials claim the line of vision was too short due to the topography of the road and that motorists would not have adequate time to see and stop for pedestrians using a crosswalk.

Also this week, a public hearing will be held on a proposed law that will require permits and proof of insurance for parades and gatherings on town-owned property at the board’s reorganizational meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in Town Hall, 1740 Two Rod Road. Planning Board members also will be appointed.
