John Szczebinski of North Tonawanda just missed his second 300 game of the tournament Monday night, as held on to his qualifying lead in the United State Bowling Congress Team USA Trials in Las Vegas, Nev.

Szczerbinski left a 10-pin on his final ball in the second game of his six-game final block. He climbed to a final fourth place for the round with a 259 in his last game giving him 1,404 pins (234.0 average) for the day. He was the top seed for the five-bowler stepladder finals held later on Monday.

The former Wichita State standout, a finalist in last spring’s Greater Buffalo USBC Association Obenauer Masters, posted a total pinfall of 7,027 for 30 qualifying games, an average of 234.2 He finished with 31 tournament points to finish 44 pins in front of runner-up John Janawicz of Winter Haven,
