Timon stops Nichols

Nichols is known for causing turnovers and Timon-St.Jude committed its fair share on Monday. But Timon also hit more than enough big shots to tuck away Nichols, 82-59. Donte Williams paced Timon with 24 points.

“They forced us into some turnovers early but we made some timely baskets when we needed to,” Timon coach Joe Mihalics said. “Nichols is a tough team.”

Elsewhere, Jamestown coach Ben Drake notched his 250th career win as four players finished in double figures led by Branden Kellam’s 18 points in a 74-52 victory over Lancaster. Drake is in his 15th season at the school.

Hat trick for Drescher

Clarence got all it needed from Tristan Drescher, who scored all three goals in the Red Devils’ 3-2 triumph over Frontier in boys WNY Federation hockey. Drescher scored his final goal, the winner, with four minutes remaining.

Also in the Fed, two female goalies faced each other for what is believed to be the first time in league history when Niagara Wheatfield’s Alexis Becker started against Lockport’s Jillian Long. Becker recorded 16 saves as the defending Large School champion Falcons won 13-0.

In WNY Federation girls hockey, Sacred Heart’s Emma Ruggiero tallied a goal as Monsignor Martin downed Amherst/Sweet Home, 3-1.

Allen sets record

Freshman Alize Allen swam to a school record 27.80 seconds in the 50 butterfly as City Honors defeated Bennett, 141-31, in a coed meet. Last year, Allen set five individual city records and was a part of City Honors’ 400 relay team that also set a city record.
