It wasn’t the type of win that Mark Lewandowski has grown accustomed to in his time at the University at Buffalo. But it gave the former standout at Lancaster High School his 100th collegiate victory Sunday afternoon.

Lewandowski won an 8-5 decision over Casey Fuller at 165 pounds, one of three for the Bulls in a 28-9 loss to 17th-ranked Edinboro.

After scoring a quick takedown, Lewandowski was caught and taken down and ended the first period tied at 3-3.

Lewandowski entered the third period up 4-3 and extended the lead to 5-3 after a quick escape. Fuller scored a tying takedown that also aggravated an injury for Lewandowski, but the senior rebounded with another takedown and earned a point for riding time for the final margin.

“If you relax too much, that’s when injuries happen, and even though he was dominating his guy he relaxed and it wound up coming back to hurt him,” UB coach Jim Beichner said. “I’m happy and proud of him for getting his 100th career win, but I’m positive that he isn’t happy with the way his match went today. You have to look at the milestone as something only eight wrestlers have done in almost 80 years of a program, but we want Mark to improve and leave here as one of the very best ever.”

Also winning for the Bulls were Max Soria at 125 pounds and John-Martin Cannon at 174 pounds.
