Community education course offerings in East Aurora that begin Feb. 1 have an unusual twist this winter, with Chinese language courses being offered for the first time.

Three sessions for young children, Middle School students, and high school/adult learners, will be offered. Instructor YuYu Qi will teach for situations that students would encounter in daily life, such as basic vocabulary and wirtten Chinese characters.

In addition, three new business offerings will address household finances - helping to plan for longevity, asset and pension protection and long-term care issues to help plan successful retirements. A workshop for families of disabled people also will be held to address important guardianship issues for trustees.

A new Tai Chi course will teach breathing and balance to enhance your physical and mental health.

The new Middle School Fitness Center will be available to students at a modest fee for the five-month term. Returning fitness offerings include a wide variety of yoga, aerobics, Pilates, strength training and water classes, aerobics, flexibility and lap swimming, as well as scuba training.

Driving courses will feature the New York State in-car instruction course for high school students, as well as insurance reduction classes for older drivers.

Spanish and French language courses, as well as Law Everyone Should Know, join the list of perennial favorites that also include Just Once guitar and piano classes, and Kids’ Dance and Play for elementary children.

Non-residents are welcome to register. The term catalog can be requested by mail or by calling 687-2311, or downloaded online at
