Ramirez’s cartoon omitted key piece

A Jan. 1 editorial cartoon by Michael Ramirez seems to show all of society’s ills that come together and morph into a figure with “evil” written on the back. Fortunately, Ramirez left a significant space where these roots of evil – pop culture, unearned fame, decaying morality and the like – come together. If we just print “access to powerful firearms” in that space, we’ll get it right.

Judging from his constant attacks on the president and Democratic policies in general, I’m sure Ramirez would not want to anger the National Rifle Association and his supporters on the right. But, with this simple correction, perhaps we can fix the omission and show what his gut feelings really were.
