WESTFIELD – A fast-moving fire that broke out about 6:45 a.m. Saturday in a four-unit apartment house at 19 Cottage St. sent six residents to area hospitals.

Westfield police managed to get all residents out of the building. Five were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Westfield Hospital and one was taken to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, for treatment of smoke inhalation, authorities said.

Chautauqua County fire investigators determined the blaze was triggered by combustible material too close to a heat source. Westfield firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Brocton, East Dunkirk, Mayville, Ripley, Portland and Fredonia.
