Who is the funniest comic in Buffalo?

We’ll learn Wednesday when the finals of the first Buffalo Laugh-off will be held starting at 8 p.m. in the new Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi St.). It’s the culmination of a 10-week contest, held in “American Idol”-style, that whittled a field of 63 contestants down to eight in events held in Nietzsche’s and Mr. Goodbar.

“This event has been awesome to gain awareness of the crazy amount of talent in this area,” says local comic Louis Gee, who created the event with Katie Lane under their Mayhem Comedy and Entertainment banner.

The finalists are Dan Fisher, Gary Andrews, Lucas Gardner, Eric Lingenfelter, Tyrone Maclin, Rick Matthews, Jonathan Berman and Brandon Trusso. They will each have 10 minutes to perform in front of judges Kristen Becker, James Kurdziel from 103.3 the Edge and former Buffalo Sabre Andrew Peters. The audience will have a say too – accounting for 25 percent of the vote. The winner is awarded the title of the funniest comic in Buffalo and $500. Admission is $12 at the door.
