Taylor Swift’s fourth album, “Red,” takes her a bit away from her usual sound, but it has paid off with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” breaking the country chart record for longest run at the top by a female in the chart’s history. She has made a mark in country music history.

Jason Aldean, with his fun image, hit No. 1 on the country charts with his new album, “Night Train.”

Hunter Hayes is an up-and-coming star in country music, and Carrie Underwood has become a multiplatinum-selling recording artist. She released her fourth album, “Blown Away” in 2012 and continues to blow fans away with her music.

Rap/hip-hop

Rap and hip-hop are bigger and badder than ever. It seems every song lately features a rap artist or the singer adds his or her own rap. From Big Sean on Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” to Karmin splashing in a bit of rap on “Brokenhearted,” it seems to be everywhere.

Nicki Minaj is one of the biggest rap artists out there, managing to work her way up the ladder in a male-dominated field.

Rihanna is surely not fading out. Her new song, “Diamond,” has fans turning up the sound on the radio.

And Alicia Keys continues to belt out the lyrics with awe-inspiring force, which can be heard on her new song, “Girl On Fire.”

The Lumineers quickly climbed to No. 1 on the charts.
