The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is investigation what Sheriff Timothy B. Howard said appear to be a series of dangerous pranks involving county highways signs in Collins.

Division of Highways workers found road signs switched last month at the intersection of Genesee and New Oregon roads.

It was discovered Thursday morning that stop signs at the intersection of Jennings and Shirley roads were switched, telling drivers to stop at Jennings instead of Shirley.

“This obviously created an extremely dangerous situation and we are asking members of the public to be alert to any suspicious vehicles or people near any intersections in that area,” Howard said. Anyone who suspects a road sign has been tampered with or who has information on the previous two cases is asked to call deputies at 858-2903.
