PENDLETON – Sewer grates are being swiped for scrap metal at a local cemetery, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies reported.
A grounds superintendent at Acacia Park Cemetery, on Tonawanda Creek Road, told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday that a number of metal sewer grates have been stolen from the park recently and said two more, valued at $250, were found missing on Wednesday.
The park manager said after noticing the theft he found a man wearing a blue jumpsuit walking through the cemetery in an area near the metal grates. Deputies said the 21-year-old City of Tonawanda man told them he was visiting a deceased friend but was unable to give them a name.
The man was not charged, but was told not to return to the cemetery.
