The Elma Town Water Department will seek emergency contractors to help out in bad weather when there is a water main break.

Water Superintendent Eugene Stevenson told the Town Board this week that two major breaks Dec. 22 came “on the worst day ever,” because of a snowstorm. He said his crew worked 12½ hours to fix the breaks.

“We usually rely on Highway Superintendent Wayne Clark’s help, and we really appreciate it, but he was out plowing, as was the East Aurora crew, which we can call on in emergencies also,” Stevenson said.

The first and worst break was near Clinton Street; the second near Hessland Court. The storm caused a power failure, which broke the water lines, Stevenson said. Councilman Michael Nolan suggested Stevenson use contractors hired through Erie County, which can be called upon in emergencies.
