Well-regulated militia key to debate over guns

Are we missing the point? I’m not sure what the gun issue is all about. The exact text of the Second Amendment reads “… A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Very short and really quite simple. We need to follow the intended purpose of this amendment: “a well-regulated Militia.”

How clear can this be? The regulation of firearms for the establishment of a militia. (Civilians trained as soldiers, not part of the regular Army). Seems to me that most people have strong opinions about this issue without any knowledge of the true wording or intent of the Second Amendment.

Therefore, we need to enforce these laws that regulate firearms for the express purpose of the establishment of a militia necessary for the security of a free state.
