The University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences appointed Dr. Channa Kolb assistant professor of neurology in the department of neurology. Kolb trained in adult neurology at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida and completed a multiple sclerosis fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, which is affilitated with Harvard Medical School. She specializes in multiple sclerosis and will see patients primarily through the Jacobs Multiple Sclerosis Center for Treatment and Research at Buffalo General Medical Center.

The Aspire of WNY Foundation appointed Sergio Martinez to its board of directors. Martinez is an investor relations associate with KEI Advisors. Aspire of WNY is a provider of programs and services for adults and children with developmental disabilities.

Company Connections

The John W. Danforth Co. was awarded the state Office for People With Developmental Disabilities’ “Putting People First” award. The company is being recognized for employing a person with a developmental disability that resulted in a great business outcome. Heritage Centers nominated the company for the award.

Ernst & Young recently released new research titled “Getting on Board, Women join boards at higher rates, though progress comes slowly.” The research reviews the changes in gender diversity on U.S. corporate boards from 2006 to 2012, looks at the backgrounds and qualifications of female directors, and examines the roles women have once they join boards. Among other findings, it shows that women are joining U.S. corporate boards at a higher rate and that boards that already have at least one female director are most likely to add more.
