Norman L. McLane of South Buffalo, a retired supervisor and compliance officer for the U.S. Department of Labor, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 89.

A native of Dansville, Mr. McLane was a 1947 graduate of Notre Dame University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. McLane worked as a mechanical engineer for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 10 years, becoming an OSHA supervisor and compliance officer for the Department of Labor.He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 3875, a 15-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross, and an avid handball player and jogger.

He was the widower of the former Jean Reilly.

Survivors include three sons, James, Michael and Daniel; and a daughter, Kathleen Marcinkiewicz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1974 Seneca St., following prayers at 9:45 a.m. in the Thomas H. McCarthy Funeral Home, 1975 Seneca St.
