Bowling Green ended Niagara’s 12-game unbeaten streak, the longest in the nation, shutting out the Purple Eagles, 3-0, Saturday night in a nonleague game before 1,823 at the BGSU Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The 17th-ranked Purple Eagles (10-3-4) had gone 9-0-3 since their last loss, 3-2 at Michigan State, more than two months ago (Oct. 19).
Bryce Williamson and Camden Wojtala scored on the power play for BGSU. Dajon Mingo tallied the last goal for the Falcons (4-10-4), who peppered Niagara goalie Carsen Chubak with 43 shots. NU, which had 38 on Andrew Hammond, trailed only 1-0 entering the final four minutes.
Meanwhile at the Buffalo State Ice Arena, Canisius outshot Army, 51-19, in a 5-1 victory over the Black Knights in the Atlantic Hockey Association.
Preston Shupe had two goals and an assist, while Matt Grazen added a goal and an assist for the Griffs, who built a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Ryan Bohrer opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Canisius in the first period. Patrick Sullivan also scored for the Golden Griffins (6-7-4, 5-3-2). Army is 5-8-2 overall, 5-3-2 in the league.
Zak Zaremba had the lone Army goal in the second period.
The teams will meet again at Buffalo State this evening at 7.
