Al Pfeiffer of West Seneca, owner of Arlington Mortuary, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital. He was 56.

Born in Buffalo, he was a 1974 graduate of South Park High School.

In 1977, Mr. Pfeiffer attended the Simmons Mortuary School in Syracuse and became a licensed funeral director. That same year, he and his brother, John, purchased Arlington Mortuary, a business that provides embalming services for local funeral homes.

From 1980 to 1989, the brothers also harvested donated eyes that were surgically implanted into recipients at local hospitals.

Mr. Pfeiffer also was a Metro Bus driver for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority from 1980 to 1997.

In the 1970s and ’80s, Mr. Pfeiffer played bass guitar in several local bands, including a Ukrainian band called Serenade. He also was active in the local German and Ukrainian communities.

In addition to his brother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Luba Regula; two daughters, Lana Zielinski and Jenny; and his mother, Anna.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 McClellan Circle, South Buffalo.
