Thomas M. Canazzi, a Buffalo teacher for more than 30 years who also was active in the theater community, died Tuesday in Erie County Medical Center. He was 65.
Mr. Canazzi graduated from Bakery Victory High School and Buffalo State College.
He was an educator who taught theater and English for more than 30 years at the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. He retired from teaching in 2002.
Canazzi, when young, also acted in local theater productions. He then directed numerous musicals and received the Kenny Award for his work on a production of “The King and I.”
He was a member of St. John’s-Grace Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his partner of 30 years, Jeffrey Mills; a daughter, Laurel Carr; three brothers, Paul, Bernie and Richard; and a sister, Kathy Hunter.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in St. John’s-Grace Episcopal Church, 51 Colonial Circle.
