Driving remained treacherous Thursday evening in some areas, although public works crews in general did a good job of cleaning up the snowdrifts and slippery pavement left behind by Wednesday’s severe snowstorm.

Numerous minor traffic accidents were reported throughout the day on Thursday, but there were no major injuries. Some vehicles remained stuck in drifted snow where snowplows or tow trucks had yet to reach them.

Some residential streets in urban areas were open to only one lane of traffic, and sidewalks in some areas remained uncleared.

Police patrols reported “a ton of accidents” on Route 198, the Scajaquada Creek Expressway, near the Elmwood Avenue interchange about 6:30 p.m., just after dark. There were some traffic delays, but no serious injuries.

Most traffic in Western New York returned to normal winter conditions Thursday night.
