Students in the Ken-Ton School District will have an opportunity to enroll in computer courses that will earn them college credits.

New articulation agreements between Buffalo State College and Ken-Ton’s two high schools will provide three college credits for students enrolled in any of three courses: Web Design 1 & 2 and Computer Fundamentals. There is a $250 fee per course.

The district already has articulation and post-secondary agreements with Erie Community College and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Enrollment for the computer courses with college credit will be open to all high school students. Students enrolled in one of the district’s four Career Academies, which offer Career and Technical Education credits through programs also known as occupational or vocational education, are required to take one course or the other.

“As part of the effort to provide rigorous curriculum for our students, we have worked diligently with industry and local colleges to prepare students to be college and career ready,” said Nancy Pray, the Business Department’s curriculum learning specialist.

The four-year career academies offered by Ken-Ton are: Computer Networking & Technology; Information Technology; Pre-Engineering; and Virtual Enterprise & Finance.

Students currently enrolled in the web design or computer fundamentals courses are eligible for the college credits. Other students will be able to sign up in January.
