A Warsaw man who has not held a driver’s license in nearly 14 years was charged over the weekend with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident, Wyoming County sheriff’s officials said Sunday.
Two officers from the Wyoming County Probation Department said they saw Jeffrey G. Murphy, 35, strike a street sign with his vehicle at 9 p.m. Friday at Oatka and Keeney roads in the Town of Warsaw.
Murphy’s vehicle continued onto Route 19 in south Warsaw, officials said, where it forced three southbound vehicles off the road. Probation officers stopped the vehicle on South Main Street in the village, where deputies arrived and arrested Murphy.
Sheriff’s officials said Murphy’s blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit. Murphy was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of an accident, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor aggravated DWI. He was sent to the County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
