Frank R. LaManna of West Seneca, a Bronze Star recipient for his service during World War II and professor emeritus at Erie Community College, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after a short illness. He was 86.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. LaManna was a lifelong resident of the area who graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo and a master’s degree from Canisius College.
Mr. LaManna received the Bronze Star for his service in the Army in the European Theater during World War II. He was a longtime counselor and chairman of admissions at Erie Community College, where he was also a professor emeritus.
An avid golfer, Mr. LaManna was a frequent winner of ECC’s annual golf tournament.
Mr. LaManna is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Nelda T. Colafranceschi; a son, Louis; a daughter, Rebecca Stock; and a brother, Bruno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 4220 Seneca St., West Seneca. Prayers will be said at 8:15 a.m. in Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home, 85 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga.
