A 22-year-old man who crashed his car on Clarence Center Road Friday called his mother to come to the scene to pick him up.

But before she could get there, he had failed a field sobriety test and was charged by state police with driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

And when the mother arrived, troopers also charged her with driving while intocated, police said Saturday.

She also was charged with drunken driving, State Police said Saturday.

The incident occurred about about 10:20 p.m. Friday on Clarence Center Road, where Ryan C. Mackenzie, of Clarence, lost control of his vehicle and struck several mailboxes, police said.

Mackenzie posted a blood-alcohol content of .13, which is above the legal limit of .08, police said.

His mother, Allison W. Mackenzie, 53, also of Clarence, refused to provide a breath sample, but was also charged with DWI, police said.

Both mother and son are scheduled to appear in Clarence Town Court on Jan. 22, police said.
