A Buffalo taxi driver told police he was stabbed in the back of the neck Saturday by one of his passengers.
The cabbie, Nicholas Lawrence, of Buffalo, no age available, drove himself to Mercy Hospital, then was transferred to Erie County Medical Center, where he was treated for a puncture wound to the neck, a hospital official said.
Lawrence, a driver for South Buffalo Cab, picked up the fare on South Park Avenue about 12:30 p.m. and, as he drove toward downtown, the passenger made a phone call. Near Fulton and Chicago streets, the passenger stabbed Lawrence on the right side of his neck with an unknown object before jumping out of the cab and running away, police said.
A butcher knife, red pen, coat, Family Dollar receipt and stickers were recovered from the he back of the taxi, police said.
