A $10 ski day
Skiers and snowboarders can give themselves a Happy New Year gift now through Jan. 9: a $10 lift ticket to use Jan. 10 at resorts throughout New York State. Ski Areas of New York is offering 10,000 tickets, which will be good at Peek n’ Peak, Holiday Valley, Holimont, Kissing Bridge and Bristol, along with areas elsewhere in the state.
Tickets can be purchased at www.iskiny.com. Instructions are to click on the 10/10/10 logo to enter; there is no cost up front, just pay at the ticket window when you arrive to ski. (Bring a printed copy of the confirmation email with you.) Tickets are limited to two per email address and are based upon availability at each ski area.
Time to chill

Buffalo’s celebrated downtown theater venue hosts the S.S. Shea’s on Jan. 26 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Guests will enjoy food samples from local restaurants, cocktails and live music, and take their chance in raffles to support Shea’s Performing Arts Center’s Restoration and Education programs. Tickets are $20 in advance; they bump to $25 if any are available at the door.
