The Williamsville Central School District expects to need two fewer full-time teachers next school year as a result of overall enrollment declines, resulting in $157,798 in salary and benefits savings for the 2013-14 budget year.
At this past week’s School Board meeting, members also debated the need to exceed the state property tax cap, but Superintendent Scott Martzloff said he doesn’t foresee it for next school year unless state funding is drastically reduced because of Superstorm Sandy or no compromise is reached regarding the “fiscal cliff.”
Martzloff also announced that the district received a $209,968 competitive state grant to improve school district efficiency. The money will be used, among other things, to help save on transportation costs through the installation of GPS tracking software on school buses, and enable the district to continue its work with the University at Buffalo’s Center for Industrial Effectiveness.

• The Sweet Home School Board will hold its December voting meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Vergils Community Center of the high school, 1901 Sweet Home Road.
• Need a job? The new Independent Health Family Branch of the YMCA is working to hire more than 200 employees over the next month for its scheduled grand opening, set for Jan. 14.
The new, 94,000 square-foot branch at 150 Tech Drive, next to the ECC North Campus, will feature two pools, two gyms, two aerobic studios and two child care areas, among other features.
“We are looking for fun, friendly, outgoing individuals to help us make a difference in the lives of our members and our community,” said Christopher Thorpe, the executive director of the new location, in a statement.
More than 50 team members are currently on the payroll and jobs are expected to fill fast.
