On Thursday, Buffalo's growing comedy scene will welcome its latest and largest addition, when the 325-seat Helium Comedy Club opens its doors at 30 Mississippi St. in the Cobblestone District.

The club, the third in a chain of venues with locations in Portland, Ore., and Philadelphia, will welcome comic Rachel Feinstein for five performances during its opening weekend. Feinstein, a purveyor of good-natured observational smack-talk, is familiar to comedy fans from her appearance on the 2010 season of NBC's "Last Comic Standing" or her half-hour Comedy Central special. She also brings with her some serious comedy-nerd cred, having written for The Onion and voiced characters on the Adult Swim show "Venture Brothers."

Ten local comics (two per performance) will help to warm up the opening weekend crowds – Eric Lingenfelter, Shaun Murphy, Josh Potter, Mark Walton, Tyrone C. Maclin, Rick Matthews, Dan Fisher, Brian Herberger, Chet Wild and Kate Anderson.

Tickets are $10 to $15, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 and 10:30 p.m. next Friday and Dec. 22. In addition to the ticket price, the club has a two-item minimum policy for its main showroom. More information about ticket policies and the club's on-site restaurant, Elements, is online at or 853-1211. Next up, the club will host Jim Norton from Dec. 28 to 31 as well Rich Vos (Jan. 3 to 5), Tammy Pescatelli (Jan. 10 to 12), Rob Schneider (Jan. 17 to 19), D.L. Hughley (Jan. 24 to 26) and Brian Posehn of "The Sarah Silverman Program" (Jan. 31 to Feb. 2).
