An engine produced at General Motors’ Town of Tonawanda engine plant has made’s 2013 list of the “10 Best Engines” for North America.

Wards praised the two-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, used in the Cadillac ATS luxury sedan, as a “stout performer that impressed all the WardsAuto editors.”

Wards said it reviewed 40 engines from 16 automakers in this year’s competition. The winners were chosen based on factors such as power, fuel efficiency, new technology, refinement and comparative data for similar engines.

GM Tonawanda began producing the engine just this year. “This has been our most challenging launch so far and we’re thrilled that it is being recognized by the powertrain experts at Wards,” said plant manager Steve Finch.
