MIDDLEPORT – Michael J. Conley, former president and chief executive officer of Norco Machine & Sheet Metal Co. in Middleport, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. He was 58.

A lifelong Middleport resident, he was a graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School and attended Geneseo State College.

After college, he joined Norco Machine, which was owned and operated by his late father, James F.

The company closed in 2002.

Active in civic affairs, Mr. Conley was president of the Lewis Wilmot Fund Charitable Trust and was a member of the Middleport Zoning Board. He joined the Middleport Fire Company in 1979, became an exempt member in 1989 and served as fire company president from 2006 to 2008. His firematic nickname was “Gonzo.”

An avid sports fan, he was a longtime Little League baseball coach and was a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder for 34 years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Middleport.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, the former SunneLou Money; a son, Stephen; two daughters, Tamara Stern and Catherine; three stepchildren, Eric Schumacher, Heidi Schumacher and Erin Schumacher; his mother, Marie; and four brothers, Timothy, Patrick, Thomas and Daniel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon Monday in Holy Trinity Parish-St. Stephen’s Church, 21 Vernon St.
