A wake will be held for Ida “Miss Ida” Murphy at 10 a.m. Friday in Antioch Baptist Church, 1327 Fillmore Ave., followed by a service at 11.
Ms. Murphy was struck and killed Thursday on Fillmore Avenue. She was hit by a light pole that was knocked down by a driver being chased by police.
She was 54.
A native of Mobile, Ala., Ms. Murphy graduated from Vigor High School in Mobile County. She moved to Buffalo in 1982.
Ms. Murphy was a longtime volunteer at the Clothes Closet clothing pantry operated by True Bethel Baptist Church. She also was a volunteer at the food pantry at Antioch Baptist Church, where she was an active member.
Surviving are a son, Carpacio P. Murphy; two daughters, Domikia K. Bates and Kinyata A. Bates; a sister Rebecca; and four brothers, Clifford, William, Joe Henton and Eddie Henton.
