Two fires early Tuesday morning about two miles apart along Fillmore Avenue on Buffalo’s East Side caused $25,000 damage each, Buffalo fire officials reported.

The first blaze, reported at 2:22 a.m., broke out at 174 French St., east of Fillmore, about five blocks south of East Ferry Street. The 2½-story building housed a partially occupied storefront, according to fire reports.

Firefighters later responded to a 5:37 a.m. alarm at 23 Gibson St., a vacant house east of Fillmore and north of William Street, about two miles south of the first fire.

The causes of both fires are listed as under investigation.
