Marlow F. Brown, one of Batavia’s most active volunteers, was interred in Venice, Fla., after his death Dec. 5 in Florida. He was 88.

Mr. Brown was the son of the late G. Forrest Brown, longtime Genesee County sheriff.

A claims insurance agent, Mr. Brown served on the Genesee County Board of Supervisors and the Batavia City Council for eight years, and headed a Jaycees study committee that established Genesee Community College in the 1960s.

He was chairman of the Batavia Planning Board and was active in the GOP committee for many years. He received a distinguished service award as the city’s Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1959.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, the former Shirley Mullaney; a daughter, Kris Hermance; and a son, Gary.
