The West Side (Of Buffalo)

The early morning sun

Penetrated through the window pane

Of an old West Side home,

Now an office.

Viewing the homes across the street

I was in a cocoon,

Feeling safe;

What a nice area, a forgotten area

I could foresee myself living here – again,

As I once did

Walking to work,

Working from home,

Walking to nearby venues –

What a wealth, an abundance, a treasure

To be nestled

In a place called HOME.

HEADS UP – The Taste of Buffalo, the city’s annual summer outdoor food festival, is holding a promotion on Facebook this month to benefit Headway of Western New York, the agency that helps people who have survived brain injuries, and their families.

For every new “like” that’s posted on the Headway of WNY fan pages between now and Dec. 31, the Taste will make a $1 donation to Headway, up to $1,500. The Taste and Headway also are highlighting ways to prevent head injury on their Facebook pages.

“The Taste has a long tradition of giving back to local organizations that help make a difference in the Western New York community,” says Chris Hitchcock, the 2012 Taste chairman. “My wife Darcy and I have been personally touched by the Headway organization.

“Sadly, we learned firsthand the life-changing effects of head injuries in 2011 when our son was struck by a car. We knew we had to learn to make informed decisions regarding our son’s care and treatment. Headway was there for us when we needed them most.”
