Every year, the award-winning Youngstown ?Garden Club decorates the French Castle at Old Fort Niagara for the holiday season. This year's theme – "Upstairs-Downstairs" – is a study in contrasts. The commandant's rooms and officers' quarters will feature sparkling silver and fleur-?de-lis while rustic is the word in the kitchen and soldiers' barracks. Here, visitors will see woodland elements reflecting the country life ?of the early settlers.
The season officially kicks off today with the annual members' social. The Castle by Candlelight programs with guided tours will take place Saturday and Dec. 22. For information on these events and visiting Old Fort Niagara call 745-7611 or visit oldfortniagara.org. The decorations will remain up until early January.
