Tops Markets has agreed to acquire three Big M supermarkets, expanding its presence in Central and Northern New York.

Two of the Big M supermarkets are in Elbridge and Jordan, west of Syracuse; the other store is in Mexico, in Northern New York.

Tops is buying the stores from the Farrugia family and says it will offer continued employment to the 161 employees of the three stores. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close Dec. 31, were not disclosed.

In two previous deals this year, Tops acquired 21 Grand Union stores and one store in North Boston.
