Transit police used videotapes to identify and arrest a 22-year-old man accused of kicking another man in the head several times during a robbery at the Metro Rail’s Amherst station over the weekend.

Officers Michael Davies and Thomas Dewey charged Samuel G. Tillman, of May Street, with robbery and second-degree assault following the attack that occurred at about 5:55 p.m. Saturday, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police said.

The 23-year-old victim suffered a concussion, broken nose, multiple contusions and a neck injury, according to police reports. The victim’s cell phone was taken in the robbery.

The break in the case came when the two transit police officers identified the known suspect from two videotapes, one from the Amherst station and the other from one of the Metro Rail trains. Police still are looking for a second attacker.
