GASPORT – A hunter apparently missed the target on Sunday afternoon and shot a Seaman Road house.

A couple living in the residence told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies they heard what sounded like a light bulb exploding inside the front foyer of their house.

A further examination found that a shotgun shell, likely used by a hunter in the area, had gone through an outside wall and continued inside, hitting an inside wall near a coat closet. Damage was listed at $500.

Deputies said the slug entered about 2 feet east of the entrance at the home in the 8800 block of Seaman Road at 2:24 p.m. Sunday. Homeowners Dorie and Robert Walsh reported seeing someone driving a yellow Mazda hunting in the area in the past, but deputies and Middleport Police searched the area and no suspects were found.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation and the sheriff’s department are investigating.
