The Buffalo Bandits started training camp for the upcoming season with a long day at the First Niagara Center. After physicals in the morning, the team staged an afternoon practice and followed it with another workout at night. The roster of approximately 40 players will work out today. The team plans to make some cuts shortly after that.

Veterans Scott Self and Mark Steenhuis sat out the sessions. Both are recovering from medical procedures on their hips, but should be ready to go for the season opener in January.

General manager Steve Dietrich wouldn’t get into details about the contract negotiations with Luke Wiles and Billy Dee Smith, who are not with the team. However, Dietrich did say that the team wants to get deals with both of them done.
