West Seneca’s annual Pearl Harbor Memorial Service will be held at noon Friday at the American Legion Post 735, 35 Legion Parkway.

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, will be guest speaker at the event, whicht will commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii that launched the United States into World War II.

Numerous veterans – including some who were stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack – have been known to attend the popular ceremony, which the public is encouraged to attend.

Refreshments and chili will follow the ceremony inside the post.

Also this week:

•The West Seneca Town Board will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Monday at West Seneca Town Hall, 1250 Union Road. The three-member board is scheduled to approve the tax warrant for the town as well as request proposals for town banking services.

• The West Seneca Board of Education will hold meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at West Middle School, 395 Center Road. • The Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road, is accepting donations of non-perishable food items through Dec. 16 as part of the West Seneca Lions Club’s annual food drive. The Lions Club will be distributing the items collected to needy families in the community.
